LEVEL DESCRIPTION
Level 1 Jazz is the foundational class designed for first graders and up, focusing on the basic elements of jazz dance.
Dancers will develop coordination, proper posture, and explore fundamental jazz technique.

PREREQUISITES
Dancers must have completed at least one year of ballet training prior to enrolling in this class.Co-requisite: Dancers are required to take a ballet class concurrently with this lyrical class to support technical development.

Dress Code: Lyrical dancers are permitted to wear leotards, shorts, leggings, or capri pants. or two-piece dance outfit is also acceptable for lyrical class. Tops should be fitted.

Description: Emerging from jazz and ballet, lyrical dance blends the technical aspects of ballet with the fluidity and expressiveness of jazz. Dancers will focus on conveying emotions and telling a story through movements that are flowing and connected. Lyrical dances are typically performed to songs with lyrics, allowing for interpretation and expression of emotions and storytelling. Throughout the year, dancers will work on growing their vocabulary of expression, ability of rhythmic timing, elongation of movements, and conveying their story. Components of Contemporary will be introduced in this class.
